Burton) to top corner of front card cover,and another modern but different owner's blue inked name to top of front pastedown: Lt-Col(Retd) E M H Parsons DSO with a Plymouth address,and a further different owner's pencilled name to top left-hand corner of rear pastedown too!Aged and grubbed cream paper-covered bds with slight discolouring,a few inevitable acquired stains/splashes,with b/w line illustrated vignette - 'The Morning Shave' - to centre of front bd,with black ink lettering,a brown cloth blind spine,brown+white flower illustrated endpapers - with cracked front hinge but still attached and in situ,rear hinge broken,the last 2 plates and rear endpaper are still attached to each other but are detached and loose from it's signature/staple; with negligible shelf-wear and inevitable but minimal rubbing to edges and corners.Top+fore-edges inevitably aged/tanned - as usual/normal (book's age!); contents slightly shaken,generally bright and clean - chromolithographs bright,crisp and clean,and in good condition - ideal for framing if used as a breaker. Lithography by Emrik & Ringer in Holland.Contents stapled and staples rusted with chromolithograph plates No. 17+18 and the rear endpaper detached and loose,but present.18 [unpaginated] plates/ chromolithographs - all called for and present,including illustrated title-page,full-page colour lithographs showing a light-hearted side and typically Victorian British patriotic and jingoistic depiction of British Indian life,from around the 2nd Battalion's first arrival in India from Gibraltar,in 1880.The illustrator was late of 24th Regt of Foot,recently (then 1890) known as the South Wales Borderers,after Army reforms in 1881.But it was as the 24th Rgt,the regiment took part in the battles of Isandlwhana and Rorke's Drift,1875. Since April 2013,and again in March 2015,the UK Post Office has increased it's Pricing in Proportion template,altering its weight allowances,dimensions and lowered its qualifying compensation rates too!
