Rudolf "Rudi" Makkreel and Marcuse were colleagues in the Philosophy Department at the University of California at San Diego in the late 60s; Frances was Makkreel's wife who also taught at UCSD. Makkreel went on to become one of the preeminent scholars of German philosophy, especially Kant, Dilthey, and hermeneutics. Very light top edge foxing else this is a tight, near fine book in a DJ with a couple of tiny edge tears and shallow edge wear at the extremities. Books signed by Marcuse are scarce..
