Handwritten letter dated September 10, 1885 from London, England. 1 page, 9 x 7 inches, folded in half and written on all four sides. Fold lines. Brander Matthews (1852-1929) was a prominent professor of literature and writer. He was especially interested in the theater, and was prominent in establishing drama as a subject worthy of study. This is a friendly, newsy letter to his friend "Stuart", in which he informs Stuart that he is co-editing the book "Actors and Actresses of Great Britain and the United States From the Days of David Garrick to the Present Time" and asks Stuart to write a section of Clara Morris.
