Sylvester, Birthday gift, April 1869" handwritten in black ink on a front flyleaf. Pages and covers are very clean and intact. A few pages have very slight foxing. A fine copy. Part of the Dotty Dimple series which follows the characters of Dotty, Prudy, and Susy. Rebecca Sophia Clarke (1833-1906) was an American author of children's literature. She used the pseudonym, Sophia May. Clarke is notable for being one of the first authors of her time to depict children more realistically with all of their humor, imagination, and even mischievousness (it was a common trend during the time to depict children with unrealistic idealism in which they were perfectly behaved)..
