Collection of fourteen original McNeill Club of Sacramento music programs. Paper wrappers in blue, light orange, brown, gray, and white with staple binding. Multiple dates between 1904 and 1927. 4 3/4" x 7." Unpaginated, all pages of each program, complete. Page count varies between about eight to fourteen pages. Four black-and-white portrait illustrations of John McNeill, complete. There is one black-and-white, illustrated portrait photograph of John McNeill on the front of the 1927 program as well as on the interiors of the 1912, 1914, and 1922 programs. Programs are clean and intact overall but have the occasional closed tear, slight chipping, some wrinkling, slightly bumped corners, a few smudges, and slight edge wear and age toning. Very Good copies. The McNeill Club was founded by John McNeill in 1887. The club featured male choral singing, but it shifted its focus to comic operas in 1890. After a hiatus, the McNeill Club reorganized in 1894 and brought back its original emphasis on male choirs. The McNeill Club remained active until 1950 when it gave its last concert. The following dates are represented in this collection (MM/DD/YYYY): 12/08/1904, 12/04/1905, 05/31/1906, 03/19/1907, 05/24/1907, 05/26/1908, 12/07/1909, 03/08/1910, 02/28/1911, 12/05/1911, 05/31/1912, 04/28/1914, 02/21/1922, and 03/29/1927. The main stars for each performance appear to be male choral singers. All of the programs in this collection credit at least one accompanist (with the exception of the 1904 program), whether it be a musician playing an instrument or another singer. In many of the programs, women accompanists are included as part of the performance. Most, if not all, of the concerts appear to be covers of famous songs.. Book.
