Circa 1900, sized 6 x 9.5 inches, on heavy gloss paper, generally very clean and bright. The author, b. Laviadia, Greece, 1824, was orphaned at the age of four when his parents were killed during the Greek revolt against Turkey. He was adopted by J. P. Miller, an American who was fighting with the Greeks. Brought to his adopted father's home in Montpelier, Vermont, in 1828, he studied law, and was admitted to the Vermont bar in 1845. In 1846 he moved to Wisconsin, settling on a farm near Oshkosh where he also practiced law. During the Mexican War, he served as colonel of the Wisconsin militia. He was state assemblyman in 1853, served on the state board of public works in 1854, and was for many years a member of the Winnebago County Board.
