MOORE, Merrill : AN INTRODUCTION TO CONCHOLOGY

MOORE, Merrill. AN INTRODUCTION TO CONCHOLOGY; or, How to Study Shells. [N.p., n.d., circa 1940-45] A single sheet of paper, 11 by 8 1/2 inches, folded once at the center, with text printed on both sides. The text is an introduction to conchology, as the title states, but very general and quite brief. This sheet might have been part of an "introduction to conchology" kit, consisting of a small bag containing a small shell or two and a card printed with an introduction to conchology, which Moore mentions in "A New Application of Conchology: The use of shell-collecting as a form of occupational therapy with psychiatric patients" (Occupational Therapy and Rehabilitation, Vol. 20, No. 5, October, 1941). Although, the card illustrated in that article is smaller than this sheet and contains less text. Moore, a psychiatrist, a poet, and an amateur conchologist, briefly touches upon many points in this introduction which he expanded upon in his longer article "A Note on Conchology" (Imago, Vol. 3, Nos. 1 & 2, April, 1942). He concludes this piece recommending the collection of sea shells as "an endless source of pleasure and interesting experiences... And incidentally it is a splendid occupation for nervous people." Scarce, in fine condition., Fine
