Circa 1900, sized 6 x 9.5 inches, on heavy gloss paper, generally very clean and bright. The author, b. New Oregon, Howard County, Iowa, March 2, 1856, was a newspaperman and politician of Wisconsin. He began his newspaper career in Iowa, but moved in 1876 to Wisconsin, settling in Richland Center where he was co-editor from 1876 - 1885 of the Richland County Republican. In 1885 he moved to Viroqua, and from 1885 to 1920 was editor of the Vernon County Censor. A Republican, he was state senator from 1897 - 1908, and chief clerk of the senate, 1915 - 1923, and 1927 - 1931. He was for several years private secretary to Governor James O. Davidson, and was a stockholder in the First National Bank of Viroqua and the State Bank of Prairie du Chien. He lived in Viroqua until his death.. Print. Book Condition: VG.
