Original cabinet card on beige board. Black and white photograph. Text is in German. Board measures 4 1/4" x 6 1/2"; photograph measures 3 5/8" x 5 1/8." Cabinet card is very clean and intact with minimal age wear and two pieces of tape on back. A fine copy. This is a beautiful photograph that shows the Cologne Cathedral (German: Kolner Dom) from its right side looking north. "Koln" (Cologne) is printed at the top. Rest of title printed beneath photograph. "Verlag v. Rommler & Jonas, K. S. Hof-Photogr., Dresden, 1893" printed at the bottom. Rommler & Jonas was a German art print shop and publishing company that was co-founded in 1871 by Emil Rommler (1842-1941), a photographer, and Leopold Erasmus Jonas (1839-?), an accountant. Rommler had received his photographic training from his father in Chemnitz and Joseph Albert in Munich. The company also employed other photographers and became well-known for its high-quality photographic prints called collotypes or albertypes that often depicted cityscapes.
