A small road map that advertises the Hotel Manx in San Francisco. No date, circa 1939. Folds out into five panels. Measures 2 1/4" x 5 1/2" folded; 11 1/4" x 5 1/2" unfolded. Black and white illustrations and reprinted photographs. A clean, fine copy. Front panel includes title and also the following: "Official AAA Hotel; Powell at Union Square; Managing Owner - Garage Service at Door; 'Meet Me at the Manx.'" Managing owner is Harvey M. Toy. Other panels include a black and white map of California, Oregon, and Washington that shows major highways as red lines and cities and promotional descriptions of the Hotel Manx, such as "airy" rooms that each have filtered ice water and "quiet good taste." Local points of interest are also advertised, such as Monterey, Seventeen Mile Drive, and the San Carlos Hotel. The Hotel Manx was built in the early 1900s. During Prohibition, the basement of the hotel became a speakeasy, and when the Golden Gate Bridge was being constructed in the 1930s, many workers from the bridge construction crew lived at the hotel. Since then, the Hotel Manx has had several renovations and still stands and operates today as the Villa Florence.. Map/Print. Book Condition: Collectible-Fine.
