Original black-and-white etching mounted on beige matboard. Signed by the artist in pencil under printed area in lower-right corner: "Wm C Ostrander." Title also written in the artist's hand. Title written in pencil under printed area in lower-left corner. No date, circa 1925. Print (visible through matboard window) measures 8 3/4" x 7 1/2." Print with matboard measures 15 3/4" x 12." Print and matboard are very clean and intact. Slight age toning to print. Slight discoloration on edges of the print where they meet the matboard window, possibly from the mounting adhesive. A Fine copy. A beautiful print featuring a desert basin filled with saguaro cactuses and desert plants and grasses. Mountains visible in the background. William C. Ostrander (1858-c. 1933) was an American artist from New York. He was taught by Carl Hecker (1827-1897), a noted artist from Germany who founded the Hecker School of Art in New York City and was well-known for being the teacher of many artists. Ostrander also became a teacher and taught at the Metropolitan Museum in New York. In the 1920s and early 1930s, Ostrander worked in California and made etchings of locales such as San Francisco and the Monterey Peninsula.. Print. Book Condition: Collectible-Fine.
