Page frequently wrote about the Antebellum South in his novels and expressed sympathy towards the Confederacy after the Civil War. Some of his books are controversial due to their racist depictions of African Americans in both the antebellum and post-Civil War eras. James Montgomery Flagg (1870-1960) was an American artist and illustrator. He is best-known for his political posters that were used during World War I and World War II.
