This new book summarises the career of Pauline Dean, a botanical watercolour artist, over the past 20 years and also gives an insight into her early life. In all there are 56 Plates showing illustrations of Pauline's work, set roughly in order of flowering from January through to December. The original artwork for her three RHS Collectors' Plates and the 1996 Chelsea Flower Show Plate are included. For each of the plates there is a brief description of the plant's history and also personal details of how and why the picture was painted. The autobiographical narrative contains other examples of her work, such as early pictures, black and white drawings (including the 'Tortworth Chestnut' which was executed for one of the BBC programmes 'Meetings with Remarkable Trees') and other images. For those aspiring artists who wish to paint botanical images there is advice on the type of paper etc. to use and how to go about exhibiting the work and publishing cards.
