This almanac is replete with advertisements and testimonials extolling all kinds of remedies and medical procedures by Dr. Pierce, such as Dr. Pierce's Pleasant Pellets for good complexion and digestive health, Dr. Pierce's Soothaline for burns, aches, and chapped skin, and Dr. Pierce's Golden Medical Discovery for nerves and digestion. In the back is a list of his Family Medicines. Also in the back is an ad for Dr. Pierce's Invalids Hotel where Deep X-Ray Therapy is offered as one of its treatments. Ray Vaughn Pierce (1840-1914) was a U.S. Representative from New York who, as Dr. Pierce, promoted and sold questionable medicinal products. For example, his Golden Medical Discovery, which was advertised as a sort of panacea, actually contained quinine, alcohol, and opium. After his passing in 1914, his son Valentine Mott took over the business. Dr. Pierce's products were sold until the 1970s.. Book. Book Condition: Fine.
