Six volumes bound as three in contemporary full speckled calf, with gilt spines, gilt frames on sides, gilt inner dentelles, a.e.g. Armorial bookplate of the Earl of Mexborough on front pastedown in each volume. 11 3/8 x 7 1/4 in. Collated against Rothschild 1573, this copy is nearly complete, lacking only the half-title and final blank in Volume 1. Otherwise all text and engraved plates and maps are present, though the preliminary matter in Volume 1 is bound in a different order and the plate placement throughout differs slightly. Additionally, there are no cancels and Ss is signed in Volume 5. Text leaves are clean but for occasional spotting and/or light toning. Bindings show a bit of wear and rubbing, but are attractive.
