Original letter handwritten in black ink on a beige postcard. Signed, "G. H. Purdue." Postcard is German and reads at top on front, "Weltpostverein. (Union Postale Universelle.); Postkarte aus Deutschland. (Allemagne.)." Postmarked August 28, 1885. Dated August 28, [1885]. Location is Wiesbaden, Germany. 3 1/2" x 5 1/2." Postcard is very clean and intact overall except for age toning, a few wrinkles, some offsetting or discoloration at bottom edge on back (side where the letter is written), and a few small stains on back. A Very Good copy. George Henry Purdue (1854-c. 1918) was an English clergyman. He graduated from Keble College at Oxford and served as the vicar of Shottermill in Newbury, England from 1884-1904. This postcard is addressed to Rev. G. G. [or, J. J.] Lias of Cambridge, England. In this brief note, Purdue thanks Lias for his "help for next Sunday" as Purdue is currently in Wiesbaden to care for his ailing father. Purdue writes that if his father's health improves in the next few days, he will be moved to England.. Manuscript. Book Condition: Collectible-Very Good.
