The chart shows western history associated with Europe and the United States and briefly lists names and events with minimal descriptive text. The theme of this timeline is European exploration although many concurrent people and events are named as well. Some of the named people and events are Lief Erikson, Columbus, John Cabot, "the different orders of knighthood established," "Magna Carta granted," and various European kings and queens.
