Three volumes complete. A swift second edition of this almost sacred architectural study of the buildings of Venice. The books have a signature in each indicating Arthur W Soames (presumably Arthur Wellesley Soames of the famous Soames family) as the owner of three books. They are dated Sept. 1873. All three volumes have wear to all edges and seams. The front faces have a gilded decoration (mild and assured). Volume 1: The Foundations. The cloth boards have wear and scuffing. The spine is worn but secure. The frontis and end papers are mild if a little marked and worn from handling and used. Colour plates are fresh and mellow and clear. The pages are firm, settled, sure, clean and clear. Volume 2: The Sea-Stories. As with volume one. Volume 3: The Fall. As with volume one. The spine has been repaired with a leather strip. Despite the wear to the covers this a most agreeable, comforting, comfortable set. fk. Book Condition: Good. Binding: Hardcover.
