Seneca’s letters on morality, their stoicism thought by some to be at variance with aspects of his own life, based on the edition by the sixteenth-century French humanist Marc Antoine Muret. Seneca is best remembered as Nero’s tutor, compelled by his former pupil to open his veins in the aftermath of the Pisonian conspiracy.
