A boys' adventure story set in the early years of the reign of Queen Elizabeth I's,London social life.Based on historical facts, about Sir Thomas Gresham. Terence Tenison Cuneo [b. 1907 - d.1996.] Son of Cyrus Cincinnato Cuneo [1879-1916.] and Nell Marion Tenison [1861-1953], artists who met whilst studying with Whistler in Pais.Born in Shepherd's Bush, London. As a child,he was taught painting by his mother, but was later, more influenced by his father's work.He studied at the Chelsea School of Art and the Slade School of Art.He was most active as an illustrator during the 1930s when he contributed extensively to a number of contemporary magazines and annuals, especially 'The Illustrated London News,as did his father before him.During the War, Cuneo was commissioned by the Foreign Office to produce anti-Nazi drawings and cartoons and an exhibition of his war works was held in 1942.After WW2 he became a successful commercial and popular painter specialising in industrial subjects and machinery (particularly railways),portraits of eminent sitters (including the Queen - he was appointed as official artist for the Coronation of Elizabeth II,which was to bring his name before the public, worldwide, also Field Marshal Montgomery, and Edward Heath) and the fantasy genre (often featuring anthropomorphised mice). From 1954 his works included a small mouse, sometimes lifelike, sometimes cartoonish. These became his trademark after 1956.They can be difficult to detect, and many people enjoy scouring his paintings to find one.Even some of his portraits of the famous contain a mouse. He contributed illustrations to periodicals and magazines such as: The ILN,The Champion Annual,The Oxford Annual, The Boys' Own Paper,Chums,Picture Post,The Strand,The Windsor Magazine, and The Wide World Magazine amogst several others.
