Former ownership signature written in black ink on front pastedown and dated to 1893: "Leslie W. Herman [?], August 29, 1898." Gilt lettering on spine. Pages and covers are very clean and intact. Binding is tight. Thomas Russell Sullivan (1849-1916) was an American author best-known for his 1887 stage adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson's Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Sullivan also wrote many novels and short stories that often had Gothic themes and motifs. This book is a collection of stories and contains the following: "The Clerk of the Weather," "A Toledo Blade," "'To Her,'" "The Anatomist of the Heart," "The Man in Red," "Jack-in-the-Box," and "Under Cover of the Darkness."
