Original Autobridge game in a cardboard box. A mechanical, non-electronic game. Played on a gray metal plate with black sliding tabs over windows. Twenty-five deal sheets (designed by Charles H. Goren) printed front and back included (each sheet is part of "Group G-1"). Top lid of box covered in green, black, and white paper with a black-and-white illustration of World's Champion bridge player, Charles H. Goren. Bottom part of box covered in black paper. Plate has cardboard backing adhered with brown cloth tape to hold deal sheets. No date, circa 1940s-1950s. Box measures 7 1/4" x 5 1/4." Game measures 7" x 4 3/4." The number "2" sliding tab for East on the plate and booklet on point count bidding are missing. Twenty-five deal sheets (for fifty variations) are included although the front of the box says there are forty-eight playing hands. Box, metal plate, and deal sheets are very clean and intact overall. Box and deal sheets have some age toning. Box has a thin brown stain in lower-right corner of top lid, splitting at corners of top lid, and slight wear to extremities. One piece of tape on bottom of box. A Very Good copy. This is Autobridge, a way for playing a solo game of bridge. Can also be used as a teaching aid. Autobridge was first released circa 1938. The game is played by inserting one of the deal sheets into the plate or board and moving the sliding tabs. Description on box lid: "Match wits with Goren and other (invisible) champions in thrilling tournament hands." Each deal sheet gives gift suggestions: "Give Autobridge to your son or daughter at school--to those in the armed services--to shut-ins; An ideal gift for any occasion.". Ephemera.
