Three volumes (complete). A valiant set. All three books have been subjected to foolhardy storage conditions and their boards bear the consequences of this inconsideration. Hence the books are somewhat curates-egg-ish. Volume 1: Journals 1651-1655. The boards are worn all about. They are marked, scuffed. They are steady and sure. The papertrims are mildly grubby from handling and storage. The contents are mild-mannered. They are clean, clear, comfortable. Volume 2: 1656-1658. Published 1954. The best of the three. The boards have marked, stains, wear, but are at least approaching dignity. They too are stout and steady. The contents are companionable, clean, clear, certain. Volume 3: Journals 1659-1662. Published 1958. The boards are considerably worn and stained and marked from storage. They are resolutely sure and steady. The papertrims are fusty. The contents are placid. There are occasional flurries of light foxing, otherwise the pages are clean, clear, competent, convivial, assured. A useful, eager set nonetheless. Three volumes (complete). An agreeable, clubbable set. All three have red cloth covered boards. These have mild shelving wear to all edges and seams. They are healthy and hale, secure and sure. Volume I : 1651-1655 ; the first free page has a thumb mark, otherwise the pages are clean, clear, neat. Volume II : 1656-1658 (pub: 1954) ; a handsome, pleasing book, with clear, confident, very tidy. Volume III : 1659-1662 (pub: 1958). The page trims have some storage marks.
