UNIDENTIFIED : 1850s ORIGINAL MANUSCRIPT BOOK OF GLASSMAKING RECIPES, PROCEDURES AND FORMULAES

16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall. On offer is an original, super, 1850s manuscript relic of the Glassmaker's art with many dozens of recipes and procedures for making glass and some related recipes; liquid glue, brass polish, Dutch lead, use of antimony and much, much more in nearly 180 or so pages. [While the author is unidentified time and place are identified: 'Flint. Metal by made me at Hull July 1850 Sand 21lb, lead 3 1/2 lb, saltpetre 1 1/2 lb, borax 5oz, manganese 2 oz, the remainder of the pot which held 3 1/2 cwt was filled with cullet(?). I had no ash caused me to use the (?).' Colors form an integral part and there are many recipes as to formulating amber, alabaster, agate, no. 30 blue, no. 34 blue, kiln flint, flint glass, opal, oriental green +++. Along with the recipes there are many narrative section explaining why, what and how certain procedures are needed in the making of glass. The once premium book is in poor shape; cracked text block and spine is basically a wreck but all is complete and legible. Overall Fair+.. Manuscript. Book Condition: Fair+
