Original 3/4 red leather binding with black cloth boards. Gilt decorative accents on covers. 1889-1907. 8 3/4" x 14." 157 pages, complete. Pages and handwriting are pristine and intact. Coves are clean and intact overall but the spine is missing and there is some chipping on the leather portions of the binding. In the accession book, over 3200 seeds and plants acquired by the University of Minnesota's Experiment Station between 1889 and 1907 are listed. In addition to the name of the seed or plant, the name of the provider (individual or company) and the provider's address are listed. The first seed/plant listed is a "currant" obtained from Seth A. Kenny of Morristown, Minnesota. The remaining half of the journal (Pages 158-267) contains modern (1970s) newspaper clippings on the literary world. This part of the journal was compiled by William H. Weimheimer and his wife, Polly. In a handwritten introduction on Page 1, Weinheimer writes not only about his literary journal but also about the pages of the agricultural accession book preceding it: "I call this my literary journal - anything literary is fair game though it will have to be interesting to me. Started Dec. 21, 1970 by William H. Weinheimer. ... My wife Polly will [undoubtedly] contribute. A word about this journal - it was discarded from the U of M experiment station and is an accession book of plant (mostly seeds) introductions to the station. It starts in [1889] and ends 1907 and may have some historical interest in its own right. Much of what I add will be printed previous to 1970 - some very early.". Manuscript.
