No owner inscrptn but price-clip to 3-colour block illustrated cartoon on front free endpaper.Bright,crisp,clean,sharp-cornered, glossy laminated paper-covered boards with colour pictorial cartoon illustration with white-outlined red letters with yellow repeated same letters within but in yellow and black shadowing of 'Beano' title,remainder letters red to white background which is also black-outlined,year date in black numbers to front cover,a bright,crisp,non-sunned blue spine/backstrip,with 'The' and 'Book' in black italics; 'BEANO' in black-outlined yellow capitals with black highlightng within the letter,and 3-colour block pictorial cartoon illustrated sets of endpapers.Negligible shelf-wear to edges and corners - no nicks,tears or splits present and minimal and barely perceptible scoring impressions to each board. Top+fore-edges inevitably but lightly aged/toned; contents bright,tight,clean,solid and sound - virtually pristine - no dog-ear reading creases to any pages' corner tips - appears unread other than my own collation.Front board with colour pictorial cartoon illustration of Dennis,Biffo the Bear,Walter and the Bash Street Kids are taking part and starting in the 'Beano Marathon'.With Walter at the back of the start all the other competitors are turning around and waving goodbye to him. Meanwhile Gnasher is tied to a 'Keep Off the Grass' sign,but straining to break free and join in,noticing Walter in particular,who is looking exhausted aready.Rear board reveals Walter winning the race at a pace,as he is being chased by Gnasher,who is dragging the sign he was tied to,behind him, whilst the other competitors are helping each other to the finish line.UK,slim Qrto HB,no dw/dj,as issued,1st edn,140pp [unpaginated] includes an unattempted Spot-the-Slipper puzzle and profuse comic's character's 3-colour block (either red+b/w,orange+b/w and yellow+b/w) cartoon comic strips. Visually the exterior appearance is spectacular for a book of it's age and nature, i.e a child's book,and even internally,the book is also in an exceptional condition/state of preservation and presentation.It is only the miniscule scoring and price-clip that prevents a higher listing of MINT. The Beano Annual is the current name of the book that has been published every year since 1939,to tie in with the children's British comic 'The Beano'.As of 2021 there have been 83 editions.These annuals were traditionally published in July or August,in time for Christmas market,and since 1965 (dated 1966) they have had the date of the following year on the cover,before then,no date was given. From 1943 to 1950 the annual was called 'The Magic-Beano Book', which referred to the merging of the short-lived sister comic 'Magic Comic' that then ceased publication in 1941 due to WW2 and Britain's introduction of strict paper-rationing.Though with war's end and the later end of paper-rationing too,the comic was never revived.However, some of the characters who had originally appeared in the pre-war 'Magic Comic' managed to remain as regular strips in the post-1950 'Beano' comic (such as Koko the Pup). The name reverted to the original title of 'The Beano Book' in 1950 and continued,the year changing for each subsequent annual, until the release of the 2003 book (in 2002) when it was renamed 'The Beano Annual'.The 2011 Beano Annual is taller and wider than previous annuals. Because of his popularity,Dennis the Menace has appeared on the front cover of every annual since the release of the 1979 annual in 1978.The latest version came out 2020 and was dated 2021.From 2009 (out in 2008)until 2020 (released 2019),the book consistently retailed at £7.99.
