Alternate,vertical green or red cartoon strips to yellow background of comic's character DOLLY,illustrated sets of endpapers+pastedowns.Publisher's bright, crisp,clean,sharp-cornered,glossy,paper-covered boards with colour pictorial cartoon illustrations of comic's characters portraits to front,a bright,red spine/backstrip without fading or sunning and no lettering,rear board with character of big UGGy paddling in a coracle balancing on the tail of a sea monster beneath him colour pictorial cartoon white background vignette,a sign saying THE END from monster's tail; with negligible shelf-wear,bumping,creasing to edges and corners - no major nicks,tears or splits present,font board scoring/indent-free, rear board with very minimal,superficial scoring.Although undated [but 1959],the title is diagonal,from top left to bottom right with heads of Topper characters to each of the dissected triagles either side of title band.Bottom two corners very minutely rubbed/worn,with some slight rubbing to shelf edge of foot of spine/ backstrip.Top+fore-edges very lightly aged/toned without further blemish; contents bright,tight,clean,solid and sound - no dog-ear reading creases to any pages' corners - appears unread,apar from my own collation. An uncommonly high grade example of an uncommon publisher's/BERYL's 6th annual, with first cartoon strip 'BIG UGGY'. Visually the exterior appearance is spectacular for a book of it's age and nature,i.e a child's book,and even internally,the book is virtually pristine and in an exceptional condition/state of preservation and presentation.A nice bright,tight,clean copy,with no laminate breakdown (which tends to be normal as the book ages). See my book ID rja969721 for the last ever TOPPER Annual - 1994,published in 1993,for an exceptional example. 'THE TOPPER BOOK' was a child's comic book/annual published from 1954 - 1994,to tie-in with the children's comic 'The Topper',a UK comic published by D. C. Thomson & Co.,Ltd.,of Dundee,that ran from 7th February 1953 to 15th September 1990, when it merged with 'The Beezer'. The first twelve editions were undated,of which the the annuals from 1954 to 1958 were of oblong/landscape format,the undated 1960 was the first of thenow continued vertical,upright format like the BEANO and DANDY annuals.The later books were published with the date of the following year on the cover,since they were traditionally published in the autumn and in time for Christmas gifts. Although 'THE TOPPER' merged with 'The BEEZER' in 1990,the annual continued for a few years afterwards.The 1994 annual, published in 1993,was the last one.
