Original color map of the Caledonian Canal in Scotland, which runs between Inverness on the east coast and Corpach on the west coast. Maps has colors of light green and brown. No date, circa 1890s. 13 1/2" x 7 1/4." Map has vertical fold lines and a horizontal fold line, which may be original. Formerly in a book, a possible folding map. Map is very clean and intact except for a few wrinkles and slight age toning. A Very Good copy. Map shows the Caledonian Canal running laterally roughly at the center. Cities, routes, and natural features are shown. Among the natural features are the canal's constituent lochs such as Loch Lochy and Loch Ness. Most of the Caledonian Canal was built through pre-existing natural features; about one-third of the canal is man-made. The Caledonian Canal was completed in 1822 and still exists to this day. Many of the geographic features are labeled. Neatline included. Engraved by W. & A. K. Johnston, an engraving firm founded in 1826 by brothers William Johnston (1802-1888) and Alexander Keith Johnston (1804-1871) in Scotland. Published by the famous publishing company, A. & C. Black, which was founded in 1807 by Adam Black (1784-1874) in Edinburgh. A. & C. Black is still in business to this day.. Map. Book Condition: Collectible-Very Good. Binding: No Binding
