Original color map of the West Highland Railway in Scotland. Map colors are light green and brown. No date, circa 1890s. 7" x 11." Map has horizontal fold lines, which may be original. Formerly in a book, a possible folding map. Map is very clean and intact except for a few wrinkles, slight age toning, and slight clipping in the lower-left corner which has cut off a minimal part of the map and scale of distance. A Very Good copy. Map shows the West Highland Railway, which ran from Craigendoran to Fort William and Mallaig in Scotland. The railway operated from 1889-1908. Cities, routes, and natural features, such as lochs, are shown. Many of the geographic features are labeled. Scale of distance and neatline included. Engraved by W. & A. K. Johnston, an engraving firm founded in 1826 by brothers William Johnston (1802-1888) and Alexander Keith Johnston (1804-1871) in Scotland. Published by the famous publishing company, A. & C. Black, which was founded in 1807 by Adam Black (1784-1874) in Edinburgh. A. & C. Black is still in business to this day.. Map. Book Condition: Collectible-Very Good.
