Marbled endpapers and edges. Armorial bookplate of Samuel James Capper to both volumes, and another former owner name neatly inked to a blank preliminary in each volume. Extremities a little rubbed and with a touch of spotting to several preliminary and concluding leaves. A very good copy of this series of more than fifty loosely connected short stories and essays, penned whilst the author was living in England and based loosely on Aston Hall, occupied by members of the Bracebridge family, near his sister's home in Birmingham..
