Original billhead on beige paper with printed text in black ink. No date, circa 1900-1910 (blank fill-in date of "190_"). 8 1/2" x 4 1/2." Billhead is blank with no handwriting. Billhead is very clean and intact overall except for slight browning at the top and a few small wrinkles. The printed letterhead reads, "[Customer] Bought of Watson Gill, Dealer in Subscription Books, No. 116 West Railroad St. (Up Stairs)." Watson Gill (1837-1903) was a New York book dealer. He began as a law student but changed career paths and worked as a high school principal. Gill found his true calling in the book business when he became acquainted with the American Publishing Company. Gill eventually became a prominent and well-respected book dealer in New York known for his subscription books including the American Cyclopaedia and Encyclopaedia Britannica.. Ephemera.
