Tunnicliffe,illustrated front panel of dw/dj, with black lettering,critics' reviews to author's other already published titles to rear panel; with negligible shelf-wear or creasing to edges and corners - no major nicks,tears or loss present.Small closed tears/nicks to top+ bottom, front spine/backstrip's gutter's edge. Mr Williamson has retained the title of his first "nature book",together with most of its contents.Otherwise it is a new book,containing as it does many new chapters,including the long 'A Boy's Nature Diary' (aged sixteen in 1913) which was written by the author when a boy at school just before the Great War,is now published for the first time.A comparison of this document,its unpremeditated clarity of style,observation of detail,and joie-de-vivre with the essays and stories written five years later,when the youthful war-veteran went to live in Devon,is,in the opinion of the publisher's, one of the most significant things about what is essentially a poet's book.
