Circa 1900, sized 6 x 9.5 inches, on heavy plate paper, generally very clean and bright. The author, b. Vernon, New Jersey, September 27, 1831, was a lawyer, politician, and Congressman from Wisconsin. He studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1855, and in 1857 moved to Wisconsin, settling in Janesville, where he set up a law practice. He held local political offices in Janesville, was a delegate to his party's national convention, 1864, and was state assemblyman in 1874, 1882, 1887 - 1888, and 1891 - 1892. In 1882 he was elected to Congress and served one term, 1883 - 1885). He was not a candidate for re-election in 1884, but instead returned to Janesville, and practiced law there until his death..
