Unnumbered stereograph on off white board (7 x 3 1/2 inch) with title "Laclede Hotel" in pencil with photographer's imprint on the backside. Some stains and soiling with small stain on front, bottom margin.Two photos are mounted with square corners on flat board. View of the five story hotel at 5th and Chestnut Streets in St. Louis ca.1870 before extensive additions were added in 1871-73. The hotel was popular with riverboat and railway travelers and served as a meeting place for the Missouri Democratic Party. The structure was demolished in 1961. The photographer, J.H. Fitzgibbon (1816-1882) had a series of studios in St. Louis between the 1840s an the 1870s.. Book. Book Condition: Collectible-Very Good.
