Woody Herman (1913-1987) was a band leader from the late 1930s and 1940s through the 1980s playing Jazz, Blues and Hop or Swing. Herman and his band, 'the Herd', issued the song "Woodchopper's Ball", his biggest hit (5 million copies sold) in 1939 and continued to tour and issue records.
