Engraving circa 1900s (4 x 5 1/2 inch) of Duncan Lamont Clinch (1787-1849) from the Carolinas in military uniform. Joined the U.S. Army in 1808 and served in the War of 1812 in the south and along the Canadian border all in the infantry. Served in the south after the war and in the 1830s fought in the Seminole Wars. During the 1st war he destroyed a 'negro fort' killing 270 indians and blacks captured. In the second war he commanded the troops at the battle of Ouithlacoochee, routing the enemy while still only losing 4 men. He made a brigadier-general in 1829 and retired in 1836 to become a planter in Georgia.. Book. Book Condition: Collectible-Very Good.
