Engraving, circa 1900s (5 x 7 inch) of Isaac Newton Lewis (1848-1931) in civilian clothing. He served as an Artillery officer in the U.S. Army after graduating from West Point in 1884. He began as a second lieutenant of artillery and served in this arm of the military till his retirement in 1913 as a colonel. In 1889 he invented the first successful artillery range and position finder which was adopted by the military. Invented numerous other improvement to artillery operations and was in charge of the report after the Spanish-American War on upgrading the artillery corps.. Book.
