Engraving, circa 1900s (4 x 5 1/2 inch) of Rufus Pratt Lincoln (1841-1900) of Massachusetts in civilian clothing. Lincoln joined the war in 1862, after graduating from Amherst College, with the Massachusetts Volunteers rising to captain in several months. He fought at Fredericksburg, Gettysburg, the Wilderness, Spottsylvania, and the assault on Petersburg. By 1864 he reached the rank of brevetted lieutenant-colonel for meritorious services. After the war he returned to college and became a doctor after graduating from Harvard in 1868. He became a famous doctor specializing in diseases of the throat, lungs, and nose.. Book.
