The Peabody Academy of Science was established in 1868 with a donation from famous entrepreneur and philanthropist George Peabody. It adopted the collection of the East India Marine Society, established in 1799, and composed of people who had navigated the Cape of Good Hope or Cape Horn. The museum is now know as the Peabody Essex Museum. This volume is an extensive catalog of the collection of the Marine Room, with numerous photographs on plates.. Book.
