Anonymous : The Pacific Railroads. Speech of Hon. James G. Maguire, of California, in the House of Representatives, Saturday, February 2, 1895

16 pages; stapled binding in paper wrapper. Speech deals with the bill proposed to forgive the Central Pacific Railroad debt incurred during the building of the railroad by the federal government. Mr Maguire opposes the bill on the grounds that fraud has been committed by the shareholders and directors of the Central Pacific Railroad citing the Huntington-Colton letters, the Pacific Railway Commission and the 'Examiner' petitions sent to congress. He goes so far as to propose to make the railroads as public highways and finishes with "Let the mortgages be foreclosed and the rights of the Government enforced in accordance with existing laws, .".
