edn.VG.No owner inscrptn,no dw/dj.Maroon cloth bds,stamped gilt letters to upper bd with the once gilt lettering to spine/
backstrip oxidised,leaving letters black
- a common fault.Light bumping to both head+foot of same - as usual/normal - with
a tiny nick to head of same.Upper bd slightly spotted and marked/grubbed with spine/backstrip slightly sunned/faded.Rear
bd also some fading to edges - proximity of another book? - and some marking and a cup-ring.Top edge dust-soiled and aged with fore-edge also slightly aged as usual/normal.Contents bright,tight and clean with minimal foxing.Foxing seems due in part,to the lower quality of paper
used for the Overseas edition,as in the true UK 1st edn,the paper used is stiffer
and brighter and less prone to foxing/
spotting.Ffe pasted to half-title and the 2 rear free endpapers seem partially stuck
to rear blank page - which seems to indicate to me,a replacement endpaper pasted in(?) - described hard but fairly.
8vo,7-317pp.Pp299-309 have minimal top edge creases and dog-ear crease corners.
This edn has the first edn,first state, dot missing over the 'i' in give,three lines up from bottom of pp10 (which has a miniscule nick and crease to top edge),no
hyphen in 'continued' on pp285,line 12, but no dropped 'g' in 'go' pp221,line 2, another 1st state issue point; as it is present here,a corrected 2nd state point.
An edition made up from both types? An uncommon issue.
