Collection of five original printed promotional ephemera from Finch, Van Slyck & McConville of St. Paul Minnesota, namely, advertisements aimed toward dealers that promote the company's products, such as "Imperial" and "Perfection" barrettes, "Very Special Men's Fibre Plaited Silk Hose," Japanese crepe, Japanese pongee, and imported dress linens. Three of the ads are "Department Store Specials" and are addressed to Charles F. Nelson of Olalla, Washington. Printed in black ink on light beige paper. No date, circa 1920s-1930s. 6 1/4" x 9," 6" x 9 1/4," and 8 1/2" x 11." Five pages (ads are printed on one side of the leaf). Small black-and-white illustrations of products on one of the ads. The ad promoting barrettes is virtually pristine and intact except for minuscule age toning and a horizontal fold line. The ad for the silk hose is clean and intact but has a vertical fold line at center and a few wrinkles and other creases. The other three ads are clean and intact overall but have two horizontal fold lines and slight age toning; two of these three also have some offsetting. Very Good overall as a set. A collection of five printed promotional ephemera from Finch, Van Slyck & McConville, a dry goods store based in St. Paul. The company began to do business in 1856 and became a wholesaler during the 1860s. Eventually, Finch, Van Slyck & McConville became the most prominent wholesaler in St. Paul. In 1911, the company consolidated its city-wide operations into one warehouse. The warehouse was designed by James E. Denson and constructed by the George Grant Construction Company. The warehouse also underwent renovations in 1923. Although Finch, Van Slyck & McConville is no longer in business, the company's signature warehouse still stands to this day and currently houses the Cosmopolitan Apartments.. Ephemera.
