Although of a religious background it goes into detail about the working conditions of The Railway Labourers with information on the injuries suffered such as crushed limbs. Also the sickness of these lower working class individuals. Such as ( I would go and see a navvy who was layin an outhouse, on a heap of leaves his children had gathered together 'Ill of the black Typhus' he said with neither bed nor bedding while the women and children were nearly starving and everybody ws afraid to go near them. A scene of greater misery I have never witnessed. The first plate is what lloks to be a line leading to sme quarry workings with a small house to one side, very light fox flecks very minor to top edge. Plate 2 is a super plate wth what looks to be a Cornish mine engine house and a small train with two coaches . Plate very good slight thumb marks top edge. Plate 3 Rail lines leading into small industrial town with lots of factory chimneys with rolling hillsides and a church in the background. Brownwater damage to lower corner to half way up plate. Plate 4 Shows rail viaduct in open country side with a small train and two coaches approaching, small brown mark down viaduct . This is quite a unique book. with a very interesting subject, relating to the building of the first railroads in this country. General condition of the book. Firmly bound Slight rub/scuff bottom top spine and corners Previous owners name in very neat writing first blank page few fox/ brown flecks but very minor.
