Donald O'Connor (1925-2003) broke into films in the late 1930s playing a teenager and had a major role in the GLORIA JEAN MUSICALS during the 1940s. In 1949 he landed the lead in the FRANCES series (seven in all), but missed the role opposite Bing Crosby in WHITE CHRISTMAS because of an illness caught from the mule in the movie. His most famous role was SINGING IN THE RAIN for which he won a Golden Globe award. In the 50s and 60s he guest starred on TV and his last film was RAGTIME (1981) with Cagney and O'Brien.. Book.
