It will be remem-bered that it was such a hermit whom the representativesof the British Church consulted when they were goingto have their meeting with Augustine. After awhileothers thought that it would be better if, instead of livingquite alone, those who wished to separate themselves fromthe world lived together under strict rules, with some oneover them as their head.
