This is the folio plate volume of one of the most beautiful Dutch pattern books of designs for staircases and lanterns. With their steep rises and narrow treads the majority of the staircases (a number of them spiral) are clearly designed to be installed in the tall, narrow town houses typical of those found in Amsterdam. Despite the constraints imposed on their construction, they are enriched with exuberant rococo detailing. A text volume was issued with the plates but this is seldom found., Berlin Cat. 2253
