"Merrick of Merryhill" was a ten episode serial Henry Treece conceived for "Swift" an English cartoon magazine for children. Treece wrote the story line and the magazine's artist provided the drawings. Each episode was 10 frames and covered one page of the magazine. This collection consists of "A summary note on the front page of the folded, signed by Treece in 1964; Seven letters, totaling nine pages, from Christine Bernard, an editor of Swift, to Treece. The letters show how the serial was conceived and executed; Characters and synopses, seven pages, consisting of five typewritten and two in Treece's hand; Typewritten carbon copies of the episode story line. Nine documents, 20 pages; Photostats of the art work for the serial. Eight pages; Tear sheets from Swift. Nine pages. Shows the finished product. "Merrick of Merryhill, appeared in September and October of 1959. In it, a school boy hero, David Merrick, battles an evil headmaster who has kidnapped a young American Indian boy as a way of gaining access to uranium ore on the boy's reservation. Treece (1911-66) was a writer of wide interests and talents. He was an acclaimed poet, author of novels for both adults and juveniles and also wrote non-fiction.. Book.
