UNIDENTIFIED : 1838 HANDWRITTEN MANUSCRIPT LETTER TO THE EDITOR REGARDING THE POOR STATE OF HOME AND POLITICS DURING AND AFTER THE REBELLIONS OF UPPER AND LOWER CANADA

4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. On offer is a super Upper Canada - Lower Canada Rebellions era twelve [12] page handwritten manuscript addressed 'Monsieur l' Editeur' in French by a woman who appears to be living in a village near Kingston [Ontario]. The anonymous author writes to a newspaper in Lower Canada [Quebec] and denunciates, after the revolts, the necessity of a new church that she says does not betray the courage and the will of the [Canadian] heroes. She begins with the title 'Conduit d'un homme sans principe' and with ardor and passion our writer expresses her desires for the political and religious renewal taking place. There is, near the end, an interesting citation regarding the state of Maine in comparison to the Canadas. We are not certain if the letter was originally signed and then the autograph was trimmed or it was always anonymous on a shortened page. This is a very interesting item of Canadian ephemera at the critical juncture in Canada's history that requires a detailed translation and further research. 19cm x 30cm double folded with a nice legible script the soft paper is a bit frail and as such with expected chips and rubs and a couple of faults but otherwise G..
