UNIDENTIFIED : 1922 ORIGINAL MANUSCRIPT DIARY HANDWRITTEN BY A WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA LOGGER, MINER, RAILROADER AND LUMBERMAN

8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. On offer is an interesting 1922 - 1923 manuscript diary handwritten by an unidentified logger, lumberman, coal miner and railroad worker who works and travels throughout Western Pennsylvania area. Dated February 20th, 1922 through April 9th, 1923 one learns that the writer has more duties and responsibilities than the hard back breaking work of his various duties. He delivers deeds and seems to be the 'go to' man as jobs come up. He does a good job providing his daily work but also mentions any local events of which there are many. He also paints a picture of the time reflecting the racism and bigotry inherent in the time and place. Here are some snippets: Ku Klux Klan burning a cross on Taylor Hill, bought suit from Jew, Copperhead bit dog, 6' 1/2" blacksnake in tree, man killed it by hitting it with rock, Union coal miners strike, 5000 miners participate in parade, Negro visits center, watches Marco the Magician in person, man falls into saw at sawmill and mangles his right leg, many workers at Morris coal mine, West Penn power line, aeroplane crashes on farm kills man who owns farm, attends movie to see "Queen of Sheba", Man beats up wife and givers her a black eye, There many of his entries remarking his on cutting down trees for the railroad, filling and emptying many coal cars (plus other railroad related work), working in a mine when union miners went on strike plus, and much, much more. Towns and places mentioned: East Bethlehem township, Clarksville, Morgantown, Fairmont, Marianna, Laurel Run, Brownsville, Middlesboro, Charlero and several other places.
