UNIDENTIFIED : 1937 ORIGINAL INTRIGUING DEPRESSION ERA MANUSCRIPT DIARY HANDWRITTEN BY A SAN FRANCISCO AREA WOMAN WHO IS HAUNTED BY THE PAST AND FACES TRIALS AND TRIBULATIONS IN THE PRESENT

4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. On offer is an enigmatic, original 1937 manuscript diary handwritten by an unidentified woman who appears to live in San Francisco California mentioning Sharp Park, The Flat Iron Building and attending shows at The Warfield. She also mentions going to Oakland, San Rafael, Alhambra and more. A casual reading leads the reader to believe there is tension and bad relationships within the family and/or with a couple she knows because on numerous occasions she talks about the police being called and that she is fed up because it keeps happening. Besides the ongoing problems there are problems that haunt her from the past as we understand when she intriguingly she writes: "In all day. Nine years ago today Virginia and I were to Mr. Frantsder's (?) in the forenoon. Some how I lived through the day and now I am living it all over again. Seeing him and kissing him for the last time. The people at the house for dinner, the funeral at the Temple, the ride to Evansville, snow and cold, the cemetery, a bunch of red roses to Mother Libby, back to Madison with Ole. Dinner at Cora Jones, then home to years without him." Collectors and historians of the era will have an interesting research study piecing this woman's story together. Here are some more snippets: 1937 "January 3rd, Burr came 9:30. In all day reading and listening to radio. Billy Baker here for dinner and we went to Royal to see "Dodsworth"….February 6th, Virginia gave H. notice to move the 10th. Packed P.M. and Burr and Boynton moved some things in evening. H. mad and had police. Horrid mess. I was just sick. February 7th, Virginia worked all day moving things in the afternoon and evening. H. again called police and Burr had a near fight with H. Whole thing just terrible. I went to Redwood City with Boynton's. I moved down to #7 and got #12 ready for Virginia. February 8th, Worked all day trying to get settled. Phoned Selig and she called association and I also talked to city attorney's office, said H. all wrong. Virginia and ___went back and got last of things. Everybody sick of it all…..February 17th, Twenty four years ago today a dear little baby girl came to two very happy people. It was a regular spring day. She is the same dear little girl and so much like the Oh so dear father who isn't here to see her. Made cake for her. Went to Boynton's in evening. Their 7th anniversary….March 15th, Washed A.M. for V. To see "Maytime" in afternoon. Jeanette McDonald and Nelson Eddy. Beautiful, but why do they tell the same heart breaking story all the time in everything I see or hear or read? It is life, but life is sometimes hard and I like to see happy pictures. Cold miserable again. Was up at 4:30 A.M…..April 1st, Burr here A.M. and I went to Boynton's with him too look through his boxes. Brought back dishes. Had lunch here. Made apple pie and took it to Boynton's and had dinner with them. They are at 6's and 7's again. Each one blaming the other. I am sorry but afraid to even try to help them. Home 10 P.M….May 21st, Home A.M. Called on Mrs. Fisher in afternoon. Also tried to see Mr. Terrill at 803 or 808. French Bank Building, Sutter St. Saw office girl and gave application to her. Also went to Real Estate Office block below on Sutter. Met Mr. Boynton on Chestnut St. and went home with her. Had dinner and went to Redwood with them and got beautiful roses. Came home and saw Virginia's furniture from Norman and Verna. I took their desk and end table…June 3rd, Went with Bess, George, Mr. Reeves on Jap(anise) ship "Asama Maru" then to Palo Alto and through Chapel. Dinner at Dinah's later to celebrate George's birthday. Home 10 P.M…..July 17th, Got up late. After breakfast went to California Theatre. Saw "Make Up and Live, Winchell and Bernie. Went over to Burr's evening with Boynton's. Took dinner over with us. I took all I had left. Burr furnished 2 big steaks, potatoes, coffee and melon. Jane and Mickey came later, also for dinner. Burr was tired and I was disgusted. We were both worked… August 20th, Went over to Burr's A.M. We went to San Raphael and saw B. Baker's trailer. Got Burr's gun and etc. Came back by G. G. Bridge and called at Lucky's House boat. Had dinner at Chinaman's met Jane and Mickey and Boynton's. Short ride with them and then Burr and I talked until 12….." She writes an entry for every day. She also mentions quite a few names, some of which are; Billy Baker, Dr. Dunn, McLaughlin, Skaggs, Gilson, Selig, Samuel Conley, Martin, Dr. Nesbit, Hoffman, Boynton, Eleanor Frieland, Peterson, Rose Frankel, Bonnie Williams, Watkins, Dr. Brooks and more.
